Yesterday afternoon, the Tulane Green Wave delivered a resounding message to the rest of the American Athletic Conference (AAC) with a dominating 52-6 victory over the Temple Owls at Yulman Stadium. This decisive win keeps Tulane’s hopes alive for a strong finish to the season and a potential spot in the College Football Playoffs. Here’s a comprehensive look at the game as well as an outlook on Tulane’s playoff chances.

Tulane's offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing 589 total yards compared to Temple's 123. Key players included quarterback Darian Mensah, who threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Makhi Hughes, who rushed for 153 yards and two scores. The defense was equally impressive, with standout performances from linebacker Nick Anderson and cornerback Jarius Monroe, who combined for multiple sacks and turnovers.

First Quarter: Setting the Tone

Tulane wasted no time establishing dominance. On their opening drive, running back Makhi Hughes capped off an impressive series with a 4-yard touchdown run. Shortly after, Darian Mensah connected with Shazz Preston on a stunning 53-yard touchdown pass, putting Tulane up 14-0. Linebacker Nick Anderson set the defensive tone with two sacks, disrupting Temple’s offensive rhythm.

Second Quarter: Extending the Lead

The second quarter saw more of the same from the Green Wave. Hughes added another 3-yard touchdown run, and Arnold Barnes III contributed with a 2-yard plunge into the end zone. Temple managed a 34-yard field goal by Rory Bell, but Tulane's defense, led by Jarius Monroe, kept the Owls from gaining any momentum. The half ended with Tulane firmly in control at 28-3.

Third Quarter: Unrelenting Pressure

Tulane continued to apply pressure in the third quarter. A quick 5-yard touchdown run by Barnes III and a 6-yard touchdown pass from Mensah to tight end Alex Bauman extended the lead to 42-3. Patrick Jenkins added a defensive highlight with a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown, showcasing the Green Wave’s defensive prowess.

Fourth Quarter: Sealing the Victory

Tulane’s offense didn’t let up in the final quarter. Kicker Patrick Durkin nailed a 24-yard field goal, and running back Ty Thompson broke free for a 50-yard touchdown run. Despite a late 75-yard touchdown run by Temple's Terrez Worthy, the game ended with a commanding 52-6 victory for Tulane.

Playoff Chances

With this decisive win, Tulane improved to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in the American Athletic Conference. They are now just behind the unbeaten Army, who leads the conference. Tulane’s unbeaten conference record and dominant performances keep them in the conversation for a spot in the College Football Playoffs. However, they will need to maintain their winning streak and hope for a little help in other key games across the nation.

Next Opponent

Tulane’s next challenge is a road game against the Navy Midshipmen. Navy is known for their strong defense and disciplined play, making them a formidable opponent. The Green Wave will need to bring their best game to secure another victory and keep their playoff dreams alive. A win against Navy will not only strengthen their position in the AAC but also boost their overall standing in the national rankings.

The Green Wave’s performance against the Temple Owls was nothing short of spectacular. Their balanced attack, relentless defense, and strategic gameplay exemplify what it means to dominate in college football. As Tulane looks ahead to their next matchup and beyond, fans can be optimistic about their chances to make the college football playoffs this season.
