In a significant move for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, defensive lineman Fitzgerald West Jr., a standout talent hailing from Lafayette Christian Academy, has officially joined the team. West, a local product with a proven track record, spent the last two seasons with LSU football and brings a wealth of experience to the Ragin' Cajuns' defensive lineup.

Having entered the transfer portal in December, West now embarks on a new chapter with the Ragin' Cajuns, armed with three years of eligibility. His decision to join the University of Louisiana at Lafayette addresses the team's need for additional strength in the defensive front, following a disappointing end to the 2023 season.

During his time at LSU, West showcased his versatility as a two-way player, excelling on both the offensive and defensive lines. A four-year starter at Lafayette Christian Academy, he earned a consensus three-star rating in the 2022 class and was recognized as the sixth-best defensive lineman in Louisiana.

West's impact was felt in seven games over the past two seasons with the Tigers, particularly standing out during his true freshman season in 2022 when he played in five games. The 6-3, 285-pound lineman, with two career tackles to his name, brings valuable depth and skill to the Ragin' Cajuns' defensive strategy.

His journey to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette includes a noteworthy stint in LSU's Study Abroad program in May of 2023, where he traveled to Senegal alongside 10 teammates for a 10-day trip. Majoring in management, West is poised to make a meaningful contribution both on and off the field.

The addition of West is part of UL's strategic efforts to bolster its defensive lineup, addressing gaps left by departing starters. Notably, the Cajuns have welcomed two transfer defensive linemen, with West being a key acquisition. This follows the earlier signing of Ashley Williams Jr. from Arizona State during the December early signing period.

As the Ragin' Cajuns gear up for the upcoming seasons, West's presence adds depth and skill to their defensive roster, marking a significant step in the team's pursuit of success.
