Tulane Cruises to 52-0 Win Over Southeastern Louisiana

Tulane showcased a dominant performance in their 2024 season opener, routing Southeastern Louisiana 52-0 at Yulman Stadium. The Green Wave outgained the Lions 472-201 in total yardage, emphasizing their control of the game.

First Quarter: Tulane Establishes Control


Tulane wasted no time asserting their dominance. Darian Mensah led the Green Wave with a precision 75-yard drive, culminating in an 11-yard touchdown pass to Yulkeith Brown. An interception return for a touchdown by Rayshawn Pleasant, who sprinted 100 yards, extended Tulane's lead to 21-0. Tulane’s defense stifled Southeastern’s offense, while Makhi Hughes added a 2-yard rushing touchdown to make it 14-0.


Second Quarter: Tulane’s Offense Rolls


The Green Wave continued their offensive onslaught. After a failed drive by Southeastern, Tulane marched downfield again, with Mensah connecting with Alex Bauman for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Tulane’s relentless pressure was evident as they kept Southeastern scoreless, ending the half with a commanding 21-0 lead

Third Quarter: Tulane Increases the Margin


Tulane’s offensive prowess was on full display in the third quarter. Backup quarterback Ty Thompson bulldozed into the end zone from 8 yards out, pushing Tulane’s advantage to 28-0. The Green Wave continued to assert their control with another touchdown drive, capped by Arnold Barnes III’s 1-yard rush, bringing the score to 35-0.


Fourth Quarter: Tulane Caps Off a Stellar Performance


In the final quarter, Tulane’s dominance was further highlighted. Thompson added a 4-yard touchdown run, and Jacob Barnes nailed a 38-yard field goal to complete the 52-0 rout. Tulane’s defense maintained their shutout with strong play throughout the game.

Tulane’s Darian Mensah was instrumental, throwing for 205 yards and two touchdowns, while Mario Williams led the receiving corps with 124 yards. Makhi Hughes and Ty Thompson contributed key rushing touchdowns. The Green Wave’s defense, led by Bailey Despnaie with eight tackles and Rayshawn Pleasant’s impactful interception return, was unyielding, showcasing their depth and talent.
